Christmas Eve DX log

December 24, Christmas Eve, ended up being good for E-Skip from Western Australia.  Interestingly it went from one area to another.  Starting at 2.20pm with Perth, they then left and Bunbury came in, after that was Kalgoorlie and Albany. Then they both eventually died out and Central Agricultural (WA's wheatbelt, east of Perth) came in and quickly was strong - Perth came back soon after at 3.55pm, stronger than they were earlier.  On with the log:

At 4.07pm I abandoned the monitoring as I had to leave home, however Perth and Central Agricultural were going strong when I switched the Tuner off.

E's Season Under Way

After a long wait, the summer E's season 2013/2014 has arrived with the first FM E's into Adelaide noted today.

91.3 4HIT Moranbah
94.3 4ABCRN Blackwater
94.7 4HIT Emerald
100.1 4ABCRR Wide Bay
100.9 4ABCRN Wide Bay

Unidentified: 89.9, 91.7, 93.3, 100.7 and 102.1.

Additionally, not identified, but most likely: 97.9 4ABCFM and 99.5 4JJJ Mackay (both in at the same time and only briefly), and 98.5 4YOU Rockhampton (also only in briefly).

Opening lasted 12.50pm (already in progress when I checked) to approx. 1.30pm.  However, it was not a particularly intense opening, hence the difficulty in getting IDs.  I hope this is not a sign of another weak E's season, fingers crossed.

Winter E's 2013

Yesterday, July 17, I checked my radio at 5.30pm local Adelaide time, to find I was getting strong 89.5 and 94.5.  A definite ID of JJJ on 89.5, means this was Nambour.  While there was no ID caught on 94.5, I'm pretty sure it was 4PNN Gympie.  91.1 was also weakly heard.  Given the JJJ reception, this most likely was Nambour too.

Unfortunately they were only around perhaps 5 minutes.  It appears I caught the tail-end of the opening.

Will be keeping a closer ear out today, hopefully I can hear some more.

Goodbye Analog TV

At bang on 9am this morning, Adelaide's analog television transmissions ceased.  I switched on the TV to witness this happen - no fanfare, nothing. Just simply went from the regular programming to snow, just like that.

This now leaves the following left to switch over:

Tasmania: April 9 2013
Perth: April 16 2013
Brisbane/Gold Coast/Sunshine Coast: May 28 2013
Darwin: July 30 2013
Sydney/Gosford: December 3 2013
Melbourne: December 10 2013

101.3 3WWM Horsham
107.5 8SAT Hallett
107.7 5YYY Whyalla

Also, the Mount Dundas outlets, which were at first (7.30am) observed at 3 bars on the Sony (40dBuV on the Onkyo).  Mildura was 1 bar, except Triple J - 2 bars.

94.5 and 95.3 also heard, but far too weak to ID.  I suspect 94.5 to likely be Nhill, as 95.7 was quite strong.
